PROJECT 1: Tutor Recruitment for AVID Classes

Team #1 Members:

Community Partners:

Everett School District (Everett High School and North Middle School)

Goals:

To develop a comprehensive recruitment program for the new AVID* classes at North Middle School and Everett High School. this project includes recruiting AVID facilitators for the 2006-2007 school year.

*AVID is a curriculum targeted for students who are underachieving, but have the desire and potential to succeed in higher education. they are often low income students who face special circumstances/obstacles that impact their educational success.

Objectives/Outcomes Expected:
  • Primary goal is to recruit 60-80 facilitators to work with students throughout the school year. These facilitators will serve as "coaches", helping students in the self-discovery and self-belief process. Facilitators will educate AVID students on all avenues that will make college possible.
  • Secondly, a marketing plan will be developed to create visibility for the program.

 

PROJECT 2: Thank You Campaign

Community Partner:

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Goals:

The Thank You Campaign is intended to develop and implement a comprehensive ongoing volunteer appreciation program for the more than 700 volunteer mentors at BBBS.

Objectives/Outcomes Expected:
  • Identify volunteers based on geographic location, length of service, employer and interest.
  • Develop a comprehensive recognition program including both yearly and monthy recognition through special activities, recognition dinner and publicity.

 

PROJECT 3: Recognizing our Volunteers

Community Partner:

Retired and Senior volunteer Program

Goals:

Revise and implement RSVP's annual recognition event for more than 1,000 senior volunteers and the thousands of hours that they give to the community every year.

Objectives/Outcomes Expected:
  • The expected accomplishments include: conduct member surveys, plan recognition event, budget development, develop recognition awards for seniors, and develop a fundraising strategy.
  • A guidebook will be established for future years reference.

 

PROJECT 4: New Style of Volunteer

Jamie Curtismith, June DeVoll, Robyn Klarman, Terri Morse, Ed Widdis

Community Partner:

Snohomish County Tourism Bureau

Goals:

Work with community organizations to help them understand the new generation of volunteers, how they are different from the volunteers of the recent past, and what types of changes will be necessary to capture and sustain these talents.

Actively contacting baby boom professionals as they near retirement age to assist them in preparing for how they will continue to use their talents and skills in the next stage of life.

Objectives/Outcomes Expected:
  • Develop marketing plan to recruit volunteers for the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau.
  • Utilize finding sin marketing plan development to turn into training materials for the "new style" of volunteer focuse don the current generation of retiring professionals.
  • Create display of findings and training materials for April 2007 Volunteer Expo.

  • Developing a directory of services for single homeless women.
  • Securing donations for 1000 pairs of shoes for kids. Collecting basic needs items for homeless teens, as well as securing funding for the future.
  • Developing a sustainable program procuring and distributing books to families with young children encouraging early childhood literacy.
  • Soliciting donations and creation of a warm, kid supportive family waiting room for a facility providing services for sexually abused children.
  • Creation of a video history of personal accounts told by Snohomish County resident war veterans.
  • Developing a resource guide of community services and links to service organizations written in native language for three immigrant populations in Snohomish County.
  • Volunteer recruitment and recognition plans developed for numerous Snohomish County non profit organizations.
